Match Report: OBRFC 2s vs. Wanstead 3s

Old Brentwoods Rugby Football Club fielded two teams for the first time in years. Despite facing challenges, the OB Super 2s showcased remarkable resilience, with Johnny Janes emphasising the victory of simply being on the field together. Notably, the return of some old faces like Sam Jones, after a hiatus from rugby for some years, added a touch of nostalgia to the day.

The Super 2s demonstrated their enthusiasm with everyone turning up ready and early, spurred on by Jegsy's heartfelt tribute to the teams pink colors. Under damp conditions, match strategy was clear: engage actively and keep spirits high. Notably, the forwards, led by Clarky, displayed unwavering dominance in the scrum, while Adam Grace orchestrated smooth ball distribution to the backs.

With every Scrum the super twos grew in confidence and dominance. This continued until Wanstead resorting to uncontested scrums, due to 4 front row injuries.

OBs' dominance remained unshaken. Great cross field kicks from Drrrrrr, Big tackles from Baz as always and some good ball carrying from Wilko However the halftime break saw OBs leading in spirit but the score line did not 0-0 as the half time whistle blew!

In the second half, OBs continued their tenacity, leading to a penalty that resulted in a line out setting the tone of OBs mind set. From the line out a driving maul was created, and Jack walked over for a try.

Unfortunately, the conversion wasn’t made

OB 5 Wanstead 0

Wanstead managed to close the gap and eventually secure a hard-fought try and converted!

OBs 5 Wanstead 7

Nonetheless, the determination shown by the entire OB team, stood fast and we went straight back up the pitch with a huge hit from Daragh that earned us a penalty. Adam Grace slotted to make the score.

OBs 8 Wanstead 7.

Wanstead made a break down the left wing and was in for a try but no one told Jegsy as he made a last-minute try-saving tackle, was nothing short of inspiring.

Finally, Wanstead pressure paid off after using all of their permitted changes with lots of fresh legs coming on wanstead scored a last minute try. Heart break for the super 2s

The final score stood at Wanstead 12, Old Brentwoods Super 2s 8.

A great galvenising performance that was very enjoyable even with the loss,

OB super 2s are Looking forward to their upcoming match against Eaton Manor at home, on 11 11 23 the OB team is determined to continue their spirited performance with smiles on muddy faces!
