On the wind-swept banks of Tewkes Creek, Old Brentwoods’ Acorns and their hosts, Canvey Island, U8s put on a fine display of tag rugby.
All the Acorns’ players did themselves proud. Amongst the many highlights were: Giacomo’s insatiable appetite for tagging, Austin’s clever support play, Charlie’s bravery in diving on any loose ball, Joseff’s intelligent appreciation of space, Thomas’ dodging and weaving, Teddy’s super speedy running, Edmund’s superman-style diving tag, Ronnie’s try scoring exploits, Finley’s excellent passing skills and Toby’s confident, powerful running.
The highlight of the day was Verity’s Prince Alexander Obolensky-esque try: from inside her own half, she first sprinted towards the right touchline then, seeing the massed ranks of would-be Canvey taggers hoving into view, she cut back at a ninety degree angle and scythed through a corridor of Canvey players to score on the left hand side of the pitch . . . tremendous!
Great fun was had by all . . . roll on next Sunday ?
