Southend Festival of Rugby!

Well, what a day we had at the festival on the 5th! A brilliant event, hosted perfectly by Southend RFC. I have to begin by congratulating them for their efforts in hosting, it was great, well done!

For the U10's it was an opportunity to show what we have learnt over the last few months, and show it they did! We set out with the simplest of targets, to score against each team we came up against. Sounds simple enough right? The teams we played made it so difficult due to their unwavering commitment and competitiveness in the games. But! - The Acorns succeeded in their goal. We put scores on each team we faced by putting together some great phases of play. Moving the ball skilfully to open space. Running hard, straight lines into and through the opposition defence. Tommy, William and Oliver all showing a great willingness to break the line and surge forward.

The teamwork and morale on show was brilliant, its so lovely to see them all working together, wanting to improve each time they set foot on the field. We had four games in the morning, Westcliff, Canvey, Bancroft and Romford. Each team gave caused us different problems but working together the Acorns always found a way to move the ball away and find the try line. Our ruck speed is starting to become quicker and quicker, but is still an area we need to work on to avoid losing possession so often.

As the games went on, the Acorns grew more and more into the competition. By the end of the day the try's were flowing thick and fast, Charlie in particular had quite a run on crossing the whitewash, finishing the last game with a brace of try's in as many minutes!

The whole team put in a great shift, the parents and I, as their coach, were incredibly proud of them all. Smiling, laughing, joking around with each other, these events give so much more than just rugby matches.
