Our match versus Upminster was played in great spirit by both teams, Upminster certainly came to play and started strongly, running in scores in quick succession. The acorns, although slightly shellshocked, soon found their feet in the game and began to put together some good phases of play. Upminster were relentless in their defensive efforts however and shut us out. The acorns didn’t drop their heads and showed real character to keep bashing and crashing into their opposition. Jake had a wonderful game. After a couple of weeks away he found himself with the ball in hand again and again and took the fight to Upminster, breaking the lines being a powerhouse up front.
Charlie took on his captain’s role with gusto, communicating clearly with his teammates and shepherding them where they were needed. It was great to see improvement in handling skills from all involved but particularly Seren and Teddy, who have made huge strides in their individual targets.
On the day the team were down to 8 players, which meant no rolling subs. The players showed great strength and fitness to play all those minutes against a side able to bring on fresh legs every few minutes.
Congratulations to Jake for being awarded the Captains Cup! He becomes Captain for our upcoming fixture vs. Old Cooperians
Well played Upminster, what a great group of kids you have there!
For the Acorns U10’s its onwards and upwards
