OB’s vs Chelmsford 25/02 - Cup Match

Fortunately the rain subsided a little towards the end of the week, giving the pitch time to drain and allowing the match to go ahead.

The numbers were very strong for a half term weekend and we were delighted to welcome several new players to the squad, joining us permanently from Brentwood rugby club.

The new players will provide some much needed resilience to the team and hopefully see some new friendships forged.

Disappointingly we conceded several tries in the first half to a much improved Chelmsford team who we had beaten not long ago. They were very efficient passing the ball out and their tackling was very strong, stopping any advances from OB’s.

The second half continued as the first half ended and Chelmsford were once again breaking through and scoring unanswered tries. Towards the end of the half a great run from Keve got us on the scoreboard and this was converted by Loughlin.

The match ended 7-41 to Chelmsford and it is clear it will take a little more time training together to get some fluid play flowing. All credit to Chelmsford who played really well across the board and were deserved victors.

There were some good individual displays on show and the stand out player for OB’s was Donald who put in some incredible tackles and worked tirelessly throughout.

Onwards and upwards and looking forward to the upcoming match against Westcliff which will be another tough challenge.
