On a cold and blustery morning OB’s 13/14’s lined up against Canvey Island, and after a 25-25 draw earlier in the season, we were expecting a tough match.
The boys got straight into their stride, showing great control through the phases and were rewarded when Matt drove over for the first score.
Canvey came back strong and scored straight from the kick off with a fine run from the winger.
It wasn’t long before OB’s were back in front following a great run from Josh and the boys kept up the pressure and extended their lead with Josef showing he has some real pace with a run down the wing.
Canvey were certainly not beaten and came back strong with a try of their own, making the score 15 – 10 to OB-s at half time.
Although OB’s were playing into a strong wind in the second half, they seemed to step up a gear. They were finding space and running hard and it started to tell on the opposition. First Keve made one of his trademark runs to score a great try and although Canvey scored their third try soon after, OB’s just kept on pushing. Again Keve made a darting run after picking up the ball, extending the lead to 25 – 15. The next score came from Jake after a quick pick up and run to score in the corner.
OB’s didn’t let up, with Leighton making a powerful run to score in the other corner just a few minutes later. With the clock running down Josh made another great run to score his second try of the day and finish off a fantastic display by the boys.
