Chingford vs OBRFC U13’s

This Sunday saw the boys away to Chingford with nearly a full squad and the luxury of 3 subs.

Coming into the game off the back of a great win against Campion last Sunday the team were still buzzing and full of confidence.

The first five minutes started a little tense with Chingford having a lot of possession near OB’s try line but the defence was solid and we were soon back in Chingford’s half.

After some nice play, a determined run from Jake saw him score and put us up 5 points. It wasn’t long before we were in touching distance again and Jake made another nice run for the line and scored his second.

This really set the whole team off and we never looked on the back foot from that point on.

Despite having some very physical opponents the tackling was excellent and there were numerous counter rucks and turnovers.

After more pressure, Matt made a strong run and put OB’s 15 points clear before Chingford managed to get one back to take the match to 5-15 at half time.

The boys came out very positively into the second half and despite a few wayward passes and some handling errors they continued to be excellent in defence, counter rucking and turnovers.

Everyone on the team was running with the ball and getting stuck into the scrums and rucks. The commitment and perseverance paid off with a couple of excellent drives from Leighton who scored 2 tries in the spaces of 8 minutes.

With the score at 5-25 the boys never looked complacent and were thirsty for even more tries.

A lovely kick from Jake was chased down by Elliott who picked up and ran on, dodging a few tackles to score a superb sixth try for OB’s.

Chingford kept coming back but found it very hard to break OB’s defence and Keve (as he had done last week so well) produced some great chases and tackles to prevent them from scoring.

With relentless pressure OB’s continued the good play and drove on deep into Chingford’s half. Joseph took a nice pass and made a darting run to the line to score a very well deserved try to the delight of his teammates.

Chingford to their credit never let their heads drop and scored a try of their own minutes later to take the game to 10-35 with just minutes remaining.

OB’s played their socks off right until the final whistle and were rewarded with two further tries from Elliott to give him his hat-trick and take the match to 10-45.

A heroes welcome was celebrated by the team who triumphantly carried Joseph off the field, which capped a fantastic display from the lads and a well deserved victory.

Special mention to Louie and Keve who were excellent throughout the game and made some great runs and tackles but were stopped by a determined Chingford side every time they made a break.

Also to Alan who took a very hard tackle which would have broken most of the spectators in half but fortunately he managed to shake it off in a few minutes without injury.

Back to back fantastic performances from all the lads sent the whole team buzzing and the sense of camaraderie was abundant and a joy to watch.

Well done lads you made all your supporters proud!
