OBRFC U13's v Campion

We expected a strong turnout from Campion but were still left a little shell shocked early on after some poor handling and missed tackles led to the visitors taking an early 0-15 lead.

Fortunately a determined team effort saw OB’s knuckle down and put the early errors behind them.

A strong run from Tyler gained OB’s some valuable ground and the ball found its way to Elliott who ran on to score OB’s first try. A short time later OB’s were level 15-15 after another try from Elliott and a powerful fun from Leighton which enabled Keve to equalize.

Campion were well and truly rattled, however Campion came back and scored a forth to lead 15-20.

Undeterred OB’s were awarded a penalty and the quick thinking Louie tapped and ran on to level the match again 20-20.

Campion fought back to 20-25 but the match was soon level again after determined run and try from Leighton.

It looked like it would be all square going into half time but Campion managed to score in the final seconds of play.

Spurred on by some all round great team play in the first half, OB’s came out strong in the second half with successive tries from Leighton, Elliott and Matt to take us to a 40-30 lead.

Just when we thought we had created some breathing space, Campion fought back and produced three successive tries of their own to edge ahead 40-45.

Although the clock was ticking and nerves were beginning to creep in from spectators, the team battled on and were not going to let all their hard work be for nothing.

Keve leveled the match at 45-45 but this was quickly countered by a run from Campion who scored.

A draw seemed like a fair result from the two battling sides and a hat trick try from Keve taking the match to 50-50 as just minutes remained was looking like a well earned result.

However with just 2 minutes remaining a fantastic run from Elliott took OB’s ahead 55-50.

An extremely nervous crowd watched on in hope only to see Campion’s huge number 4 tearing down the field to what looked like was going to be a match equalizer. Elliott gave chase and with every team mate, coach and home supporter willing him on produced an outstanding tackle to take him down, just before the final whistle was blown to give OB’s an incredible victory!

Special mention to Charlie T who was lent to Campion to even the numbers and play in what was an excellent Campion side only beaten by some dogged determination from OB’s.

Also massive credit to Oscar who played an excellent game at full back with some safe hands and driving runs, keeping Campion’s attack at bay.

What a game, it was an absolute belter to watch and the lads were rightly very proud of their performance to win 55-50. Especially coming back from 0-15 down!

The whole team played brilliantly and this will go down as the most epic match of the season so far!
