On a chilly morning over on Canvey Island we were met with a warm welcome as always by our hosts for a penultimate friendly match before the Christmas break. Having had a couple of last minute illnesses we were down a couple of players. Canvey kindly lent us players so we could have a 13 aside match.
Canvey started strongly and had lots of possession deep in OB’s half and despite some valiant defending by OB’s, Canvey went two tries ahead early on.
OB’s didn’t let that get to them and put in some great tackles against some tough opponents. The hard work paid off and Matt followed by Keve got a try a piece to level the match.
Canvey got a try back before half time but just into the second half Matt made another strong run and put us even at 15-15.
This gave OB’s some new found determination and they continued with some excellent tackling, forward runs and rucking. Canvey edged ahead 20-15 but It wasn’t long before Keve and then Louis scored a couple of great tries to put us 25-20 ahead.
The hard work continued but Canvey managed to score a deserved try towards the end of the match to finish 25-25 which was a fair result.
Special mention goes to man of the match Leighton who put in a mammoth shift and was our superstar tackler, against some very sizeable and handy opponents.
A very enjoyable match to watch.
