- Romford and Gidea Park U12s v Old Brentwood Acorns U12s and Witham U12s

On Sunday, OB’s U12s visited Crow Lane, along with our friends from Witham for a triangular fixture with Romford. OBs were missing some players, and were grateful to Witham for lending them some boys to play against Romford.

The first game between Romford and Witham ended with a comfortable win for Romford. The final game between OBs and Witham ended with a comfortable win for OBs.

The second game, between Romford and OBs, provided a stern test for the respective sides, and gave some indication of where OBs are in terms of development this season.

Both sides tackled hard with Romford in particular making a memorable try saving tackle on OBs winger when it looked for all money that a try would be scored. OBs led by a try to nil at half time, and it would be fair to say that their lack of discipline at the breakdown probably allowed Romford to stay in touch throughout the game.

In the second half Romford were awarded a try in the penultimate play of the game, and the final result 1-1 was a fair reflection of how the game played out.

All the boys from all three teams showed great sportsmanship and displayed true rugby values. OBs could have won the game, but against quality opposition like Romford, a failure to secure quick ball and move it wide was always likely to prove costly. OBs are a tight knit team and they will look forward to their absentees returning for the next fixture.
