Mr Staines returns for OB's final game of the season.

Old Brentwoods 20 (Pugh, Smyth (2), Embling)
Writtle Wanderers 39

• Early pressure from kick off. Matthew Staines turnover in the tackle. Rhys Newton chip and chase, nearly scored.

• OBs TRY – Jamie Pugh saw space in behind the defence, kicked over the top, and chased to dive on the ball and claim the opening score. 0-5.

• OBs survived pressure of Writtle in their 22. Carries through the forwards resulted in penalties.

• OBs TRY – clever lineout trick-play to Matt Jones who gave the ball back to Hooker Stuart Smyth who showed good speed and power to run down the touchline to score. 0-10.

• WRITTLE TRY – set move from the lineout, 10 drifted out, showed 2 dummy passes and found space to split the defence and go over for their first try. 7-10.

• WRITTLE TRY – from the kick off, Writtle looked to move wide and found the edge of OBs defence. Excellent support play kept their attack going and they took the lead. 12-10.

• WRITTLE TRY - a kick deep into OB's 22 followed by a strong chase put Rhys Newton under pressure turning over possession - Writtle's forwards crashed through a disorganised OBs defence to score

HT 19-10

• WRITTLE TRY – dropped ball from the restart gave Writtle the first attacking opportunity of the half. After going to the left wing, they then attacked the right wing and their width stretched the OBs defence and their 7 went in to score. 24-10

• WRITTLE TRY – OBs were on the attack in the 22 and looked as though they were breaking down the home side’s defence. Dave Embling had a 2v1 close to the line but the Writtle defender gambled and went for the intercept. The winger plucked the ball from the air and raced towards the try line. Liam Talbot worked hard and showed good speed to get back and make the cover tackle. Though Writtle maintained the pressure and found a way to score. 29-10.

• OBS TRY – Replacement Liam Tilley surged the attack forward with a powerful carry and was held up. Ant Inkersole broke off the back of a ruck, offloaded to Richard Clarke who then delivered the ball to Captain Dave Embling who burrowed over to score. 29-15.

• OBs nearly try – OBs continued to show their attacking intent. A series of 1 hand offloads from Stuart Smyth – who made the initial break – Matt Jones and Richard Clarke broke Writtle’s defence. Scrum Half Tim Mason continued the attack, broke into the 22, and gave the ball to Chris Keogh who, whilst fending the last defender, planted the ball into the stomach of Senna Ahmet who then clashed over to score. Unfortunately the final pass was judged forward.

• OBS TRY – The resulting scrum was turned over and OBs put pressure on the home side. It was Richard Clarke again with the assist, this time to Stuart Smyth who bagged his second try of the afternoon. 29-20.

• WRITTLE TRY – from the kick off, dropped ball gave them turnover ball. Writtle’s wide game was certainly worked this afternoon. They found a mismatch in the defence and broke through to score. 34-20.

• WRITTLE TRY – lineout move just outside the 22. Decoy runners fixed defenders and created space out wide, then a missed tackle opened the door for Writtle to score their seventh of the afternoon. 39-20.
