Saturday 22nd December will be the date for this season's President's Match. This has been a tradition that has lapsed over the past couple of seasons and before that, was morphed into a league match against Ilford.
Well, time to resurrect the President's Match proper! Many will remember the Beckett House teams we used to have to play against. Well, I can provide some who would be as old as those players are now. In my 40th year I have managed to convene a side of people who are within 12 months of 40 years old (39/40/41 averaging at 40 years old). We will be playing a mixed club side under the Captaincy of Matt Staines and Vice Captaincy of Darragh Harnett. This will be a social match, where we can have a bit of fun but also will fill a hole in the traditional Xmas close season (We have Milwall in the league on the first match back in the New Year). Matt has asked me to put this on here to forewarn all those who fancy using this day as a Chrissy shopping day to think again!!! Put it on the calendar, make apologies to the missus but we have a rugby match and socialising to do. All players who would like to play in the Club side please tell Matt and Darragh in plenty of time. Of course we would like to see as many spectators as possible that day, I am sure we can speak to Mel and rustle up some mulled wine, to warm the cockles while you watch. Put the date in your diary, I am sure a few will be out in Brentwood in the evening as well (for those who can't escape Lakeside) Look forward to seeing you there and spread the word.... PC |
