Despite producing some fine play to compliment the great efforts in the stifling conditions the Old Boys were unable to overcome the superior forward power of East London and went down 19-14 in their second League game of the season.

A steady start from both sides brought few early chances.

Despite the visitors dominating the scrums the Old Boys proved more effective in the lineouts and this pattern was to continue throughout the game.

With the Old Boys missing out on a penalty chance after 10 minutes Esat London began to create more chances and despite some stout defence notably from Peter Womersley and Phil Pembroke the visitors went over for their first score.

Doug Cutmore was successful with the conversion and the Old Boys went in at half-time 7-5 up.

The second half saw the Old Boys having to absorb the majority ot the pressure dominance in the rucks and mauls drove London further forward and 10 minutes into the half they were rewarded for their industry going through unoposed for a converted try to recapture the lead.

The Old Boys upped their work rate and through powerful runs from Billy Mullen and Paul Buchanan forced their way back into the London half.

A fine take by Pat Stroud in the lineout set the ball up for the backs and with Alastair Rigden and Alex Hughes linking well in midfield the ball came out to Neil Hannaway who sprinted over the line for the Old Boy' second try. The conversion by Cutmore was successful.

The ebb and flow of the game was constant and with both sides beginning to wilt in the conditions the vistitors finally made the most of their chances, going over for another converted try with 10 minutes remaining.
