Date - 11th November 2000 Old Brentwoods 2nd XV -v- Billericay 3rd XV
Old Brentwoods won 41 - 13
The Old Boys sealed another convincing win, with victory over local rivals Billericay on Saturday, in atrocious conditions. After winning the toss the Old Brentwood's chose to play up hill, into the wind in the first half.

From the start the Old Brentwood's forwards dominated the loose play, securing quick clean ball for scrum half Alex Hughes, to release the more mobile Old Boys backs. Perry Reeves playing at Fly Half used the centres Mark Tetner and Jean Pierre to great effect, and only some solid defence from Billericay halted any early progress. When number 8 Billy Mullen picked up from the base of a sturdy scrum mid way through the first half, and passed out wide to Mark Tetner, who was running from depth, the Old Boys the first points. His running lines enabling him to break through the Billericay defence to see him go over for the first try. Jean Pierre soon followed him over the line after some excellent support play to bring the Old Boys tally to 10 points in the first half.

Billericay were not however without a reply, and after a rolling maul up the middle of the park caught the Old Brentwood's three quarters line napping, and scored their first try. The Billericay forwards were then able to turn the ball over in loose play, and Billericay scored a break away try to level the points. The Old Boys then gave away a penalty under their own posts, and Billericay opted for the points to make the half time score 13-10.

From the start of the second half the Old Brentwood's line out started to have effect with the combinations of Dave Knapp Steve Gorrod, Dave Cavanagh and Charlie Raymond able to secure ball at the front, and set up some good attacking situations. Using short passes down the line full back Simon Peace scored the Old Boys first try of the half, going over in the corner. Michael Ashby was then able to capitalise on an excellent pass from Billy Mullen after a typically thunderous charge, to increase the lead. Excellent defence from the blind side by Johnny Davis and Matt Istead kept Billericay out as the home side gathered momentum.

Unfortunately Billericay lost two players through injury, and the visitors used the overlaps that started to appear to run away with the game. Two further tries for Mark Tetner and one for Johnny Davis secured the win. Billericay kept their heads up throughout the game, and defended as well as thirteen men can, but the Old Boys new found running and passing confidence proved too much.

The Old Brentwood's pack deserved the credit for this win having won so much clean ball for the three-quarter line to use. The team now seems much more settled with the forwards combining well with the backs, and the team's strengths now being played too rather than letting the opposition dictate the game.

This week sees the Old Boys at home to Chelmsford IV, and on the back of three straight wins, will at least have confidence on their side
